Looking Back: The 2023 Seafarers Program – Our hunt for young vibrant youth

In the hunt for young vibrant youth, on the 8th of February 2023, the Tetra Foundation team met with Dr Onuoha, the provost of the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology, Victoria-Island — one of the top accredited maritime academies in Nigeria — to formally discuss the Foundation’s intention of selecting beneficiaries of the 2023 batch for the Seafarers Program from the college.

This meeting was enhanced by existing relationships between our recruitment partner, GoodWork Marine, and the college. In the past, GoodWork Marine had fostered the acquisition of practical experience for some cadets from the college through excursions on board different vessels at berth within the Lagos water channels and donated equipment and books to enhance the learning process. This ultimately contributed to the accreditation of the HND program at FCFMT.

On the 17th of February 2023, the Tetra Foundation team met with the first- and second-year students currently undergoing their HND programs in Nautical science and Marine engineering at the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology, to introduce them to the requirements for applying to the scholarship program and enlighten them on the opportunities they will be exposed to.

Speaking to 1st and 2nd year students.

This was the first step of a series of processes to help the Foundation build a skilled workforce of young vibrant Nigerian Seafarers.
